Image Access Partner Bucap Supports Rotary Palladio Initiative for Library Digitization Project
The Rotary Club Vicenza and other contributing clubs in Rotary District 2060, purchased a Bookeye 5 V2 scanner through Image Access partner Bucap for donation to the Biblioteca Civica Bertoliana. The equipment will be used to complete the digitization projects of fragile, large-sized historical documents from Vicenza’s Civica Bertoliana Library.
The donation was formalized at Palazzo Cordellina: “It is with our sincere gratitude,” Mayor Francesco Rucco comments in a note, “that we welcome this donation. The Rotary Club Vicenza Palladio, with the other Rotary clubs in the area and the “Amici della Bertoliana”, has proved sensitive to a very concrete need of our historic library. This latest generation planetary scanner will in fact make it possible to take important steps in the digitization of large ancient documents preserved in Bertoliana. It is a significant result in line with our goal of giving the city a library that is new in space and innovative in terms of study and work tools.”
“This donation – adds the Councilor for Culture Simona Siotto – is particularly dear to me because it arises from the collaboration among subjects who have shared a common aim: to make valuable books and documents accessible to everyone through contemporary technology, without compromising their conservation. This is a true cultural operation.”
Digitization, in addition to responding to this basic need, is also an essential tool for enhancing collections: for the preparation of exhibitions, for specialist consultancies, to serve users (for study or publication), and for the creation of a Digital Library.
