In December 2020, Image Access joined the Global Graphics Software Partner Network as a technology partner. The network brings together partners who develop and sell products or provide services that can enhance solutions built using technologies from Global Graphics Software, such as their PrintFlat™ technology.

For the PrintFlat process to work, printed target pages need to be scanned and the resultant image data fed into the PrintFlat solution. This is where the ImageAcess partnership comes into play. Last year, Image Access began their cooperative effort with Global Graphics Software, developing a solution to enable printer vendors to implement a new family of Image Access line scan bars called WideSCANinto their printers to support the creation of PrintFlat™ calibrations. The WideSCANscan bars, together with PrintFlat, will dramatically increase print quality with minimal impact on overall production time.

Before and after images illustrate how effective
PrintFlat™ technology is at improving print uniformity

PrintFlat removes banding and stripes in inkjet printing. A common problem, it occurs because inkjet printheads produce variable density output, both across an individual printhead (known as the inkjet ‘smile’) and when comparing output from one printhead with another. The output from a printhead can also change with time, as the printhead wears or ages. Additionally, the overlapping stitch area between printheads in a single pass printer, or between overlapping passes in a multi-pass printer, can also cause density variations. Such variable density becomes visible in the printed output as banding and stripes and means that it is not possible for print providers to digitally print jobs with certain image features, such as flat areas or gradients. By adding PrintFlat technology to a print workflow it helps to boost printer sales and reduce support calls for OEMs by expanding the range of printable jobs and consistently achieving exceptional image quality.

For more than 25 years, Image Access has manufactured wide format scanners of the Bookeye® and WideTEK® brands. With this background of experience and utilization of emerging camera technologies, we continue to design and implement new scanning hardware and technologies for future solutions.
